A Tranquil Village * - a photo on Flickriver

            Drove through the lovely village of Cavendish in Suffolk recently and couldn’t resist stopping to capture this scene.

The cottages are grade 2 listed buildings dating from circa 16th to 17th century. They are currently almshouses, which sadly were badly damaged in a fire in the early 1970’s. They were rebuilt in 1972 and are operated by a trust. 

The Church in the background is dedicated to St Mary the Virgin and dates from circa 14th to 17th century although the tower dates from the 13th century. It is a Grade 1 listed building. The Domesday Book compiled for William the Conqueror after the Norman invasion of 1066 shows the village was previously served by a Saxon Church.
