The Mountain and the Carrier - a photo on Flickriver

            Northern Washington's Mt. Baker looms behind the supercarrier USS Nimitz, docked at the Indian Island Naval Reserve, on Port Townsend Bay.  At 10,781 feet (3,286 m) above sea level, Mt. Baker is the second-most thermally-active volcano in the Cascades, the third-highest mountain in Washington State, and the snowiest place on earth.  At 1,092 feet (332.8 m) of length and 100,200 tonnes of displacement, the USS Nimitz (CVN-68) is a nuclear-powered multi-role aircraft carrier, with a full complement of 90 aircraft, and is one of the largest warships ever built.  Two beautiful yet dangerous behemoths that nevertheless look so out of place next to one another.
