Shadow Of Its Former Self - a photo on Flickriver

There are two published photographs I have taken of Salote Pool. A colour photograph I took in 2012 (see it in my comment below), before I began shooting exclusively in B&W, shows a moss and fern-covered log diving into the pool from the left. The B&W photograph I shot early this morning. I call it "Shadow Of Its Former Self". Why?

Because that beautiful log you see in the colour photograph, a log that had obviously been in situ for many decades, was destroyed in an act of vandalism committed by a photographer up from Sydney for the day. I won't mention his name, but in 2014 or 2015 he posted a photograph of Salote Pool on social media and complained that he didn't get the shot he had travelled all that way to get. That was because the female model he had brought with him, and who had been instructed by him to shed her clothes, wade into the pool, climb onto the log and recline naked on it, had broken the log into two doing what he told her to. The fact that he said all this in his post told me he was not only a vandal, but an idiot to boot.

For several years after that crime was committed, the broken log remained, until it was inevitably swept downstream by flood waters. That idiot caused the permanent destruction of a fragile feature of the fragile environment making up our World Heritgae area. I stopped walking into the area for several years because seeing the log gone and knowing why just made me seethe. It still does.
