Lots of Boats at the Sail-by
The Sail-by is the final event at the Wooden Boat Festival in Port Townsend, Washington. This image shows only sailboats, but other crafts parade by too. I will mention some information on three of the boats I can identify. The gaff-rigged schooner with 15 on the sail is the 1913 Adventuress that was #15 pilot schooner in San Francisco for many years. She also did some arctic exploration. The boat with yellowish sails is Odyssey, built in 1938, originally for the purpose of racing and vacationing. She has since served as a U.S. Naval vessel during World War II and is now a Sea Scout Ship in Tacoma, Washington where she serves to teach local youth sailing, leadership, trade skills and commitment. The tanbark sails belong to Bertie yawl that is shown sailing away with a Southern Chinese Swatow mainsail and a gaff-rigged sail on the stern. Unfortunately, she was lost in a white squall in 2019. The owners were rescued.
