Red Sailboat at Elk Lake - a photo on Flickriver

Elk Lake is a natural body of water in the central Cascade Range in the U.S. state of Oregon. Nearly 4,900 feet above sea level, the lake is part of a volcanic landscape about 25 miles west-southwest of Bend along the Cascade Lakes Scenic Byway. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elk_Lake_(Oregon)
Elk Lake is known as a great lake for sailing, I have sailed my sail canoe there many times and almost always had good wind. I met a old man there who recalled the days when there were regular races on the lake with Old Town sail canoes. He still had his lateen sail from those times. These days the sailboats tend to be like the red one in the photo. The dead trees are the result of a fire that came close to the fancy log home but it was spared.
