Moving Water Painting Itself - a photo on Flickriver

            The "painted look" was NOT created using an editing trick. 
It was created photographically by capturing the movement of water in a special way: 

1. I shoot photos like this at 1/30s, so the camera records how far the water moves during that time. This gives the "painted" effect. 

2. I shoot these photos hand-held with an image-stabilized telephoto zoom lens. I let the camera pick the f/stop (f/22 here) and ISO (400 here). Sometimes the photos are sharp (as here) and sometimes they are blurry, in spite of the lens stabilization. 

3. Also, in this photo, late-afternoon light on a cloudy day contributed to the "painterly" look. I cropped the original 15x10 photo to produce this 16x9 panorama. Somehow, 16x9 suggests the dimensions of the stretch of river where the photo was taken.
