For the Birds

"For the birds" is an American English idiom for anything you seriously don't like personally or think is generally terrible.

Well, it is "for the birds" that a huge part of the North American bird population has disappeared in the last 50 years:

"According to research published online in September by the journal Science, wild bird populations in the continental U.S. and Canada have declined by almost 30% since 1970...a loss of 2.9 billion breeding adult birds—with devastating losses among birds in every biome."

It is clear to scientists that the cause is human destruction of bird natural habitats of all kinds.
