The third generation Ford Focus was launched as a world car at the 2010 North American International Motor Show, as a 2012 model.a 4-door sedan and 5-door hatchback, the 5 door Estate making its debut a month later at Geneva. Designed under the tenure of CEO Alan Mulally and his "One Ford" plan, which aimed to leverage Ford's global resources into creating more competitive vehicles that could be sold globally in each segment with minimal changes.

The performance orientated ST model of the third generation Focus was launched in Summer 2012 after its first reveal at the 2010 Paris Autoshow and unveiling of the Hatchback and Estate versions at the 2011 Frankfurt Motorshow. The ST features a new, more aggressive exterior design, including a redesigned front bumper with larger air intakes and grille, larger rear wing, wider side sills, center-exit exhaust, and alloy wheels. Offered in three trim levels St-1, ST-2 and ST-3 the car was powered by a 252 hp version of the 4-cylinder 2.0L EcoBoost petrol engine

The 3rd generation ST received a facelift for 2015 with the same 252hp Ecoboost petrol engine, driving through a six speed manual transmission. Updates were made to the front and rear fascias to coincide with the changes implemented in the standard Focus, including the lights, grille, and rear diffuser. The availability of 5-door hatchback and estate (wagon) body styles remained unchanged. For the European markets, a 2.0L TDCi Duratorq Diesel engine of 182hp (185 PS) was available for the ST with a 6-speed PowerShift automatic gearbox in response to the VAG Volkswagen Golf GTD and Seat Leon FR
