The 1958 model year Oldsmobile was advertised as the King of Chrome particularly the high specification Super 88 and 98 models. Powered by a 371 Ci V8 fed by a four barrelled carburettor and capable of 300 bhp with a J2 option featuring three three two barrelled carburettors and an output of 310bhp. Another feature for 1958 was the Sportable Radio which could be removed and used as a portable radio. Despite the 1958 US recession the 1958 Oldsmobile sold well with only a slight dip in sales
