It is strange to think of Police Officers riding round on duty in a two seater sports car today, but BMC supplied a number to various Police Forces. This car 827 NTC was part of a batch supplied new to Lancashire Police

This car was offered at the Bonhams slae at the 2003 Goodwood Revival Meeting with the following description. - This MGA Roadster was acquired by the previous owner c.1996/97, having been identified by him as one of approximately 50 MGAs supplied for traffic patrol duties to Lancashire Constabulary. The cars were divided into white ('A Class') and black ('B Class') contingents and driven exclusively by lady police officers. These cars' special chassis were basically to 1600 Deluxe/Twin Cam specification, though with drum rear brakes instead of discs and extended battery carriers necessitated by the extra electrical equipment (radio, public address amplifier, etc) carried in the boot. It had previously been in storage for approximately ten years. Painted white, it was revealed by the Heritage Certificate originally to have been one of the black ('B Class') cars and was re-finished appropriately incorporating correct, original police equipment including front 'Police' sign and (non-functioning) public address megaphone. Since its refurbishment in police livery in 1998, '827 NTC' has been kept garaged and used mainly for shows, runs and rallies - covering fewer than 5,000 miles in the process. In 2001 the car was used by model-makers Vanguard Lledo to produce a diorama depicting a Lancashire Police garage forecourt of the early 1960s and has regularly appeared as a course car at the Goodwood Revival meeting.

The MG A was first introduced in 1955 powered by a 1489cc twin carb engine of 72bhp, The cars were updated for 1958 as the MG A 1600 with a larger 1588cc 80bhp, plus front disc brakes. The Roadsters have sliding type side screens.
The MGA 1600 Deluxe is a rare variant with a Twin Cam and discs all round.
