Replacing the 3 door Sierra Cosworth the 4 door Saphire was a far less aggressive looking car with improved equipment, and superb handling. Powered by a 2,0 ltr twin cam engine of 204bhp and with a top speed of 143mph and a 0-60mph time of 5.8 seconds, it was both phenomenal value for money and Britain's most stolen car.
Replaced in 1990 by a 4x4 220bhp version
