The hoar frost in this image is a slight golden colour, courtesy of the morning sun. Although softer in appearance than the more typical pure white frost, I found it to be particularly beautiful. Maybe I am a old softie, but this sight brought tears to my eyes (which is maybe not good to do in subzero weather). When it is so cold on a day like this, I typically can only do a few shots. Then I hop in my little red truck to warm up as I drive toward another potential image.
