            I thought it apt, to go along with the adjacent image and upload this image from the camera of my friend the late Eddie Bellass showing the location in steam days. My picture was taken in the distance looking in this direction. 
Eddie's father worked Lowton Junction box and I recall him telling me the significance of the fireman looking up to him in this image. A4 60019 Bittern had worked from Leeds City via Wennington and WCML to here and needed water which was taken round the corner at Parkside East Junction. The tour should have featured a Black 5 to assist with reversals but for some reason none was rostered on the day! The A4 later worked the tour tender first from Guide Bridge via Denton to Stockport, before returning to Leeds via Bury Knowsley Street, Castleton and Calder Valley. I stand corrected on this but I believe this was its last mainline run after being purchased by Geoff Drury. Serious cracks in its frames were discovered and only patched up by BR to keep it going in its last months of Glasgow - Aberdeen services. Bittern worked the final steam hauled service and subsequently withdrawn September 3rd 1966.
