            Here is the remarkable scene by modern day standards to mark the last day of steam on British Railways. The '15 Guinea Special' (a lot of money in 1968) stopped for ten minutes at the Huskisson Memorial, Parkside. Hauled fittingly by Vulcan Foundry (Newton-le-Willows) product Black Five 45110. 
Hundreds turned out including my family and spotting mates, indeed I think Eddie has captured a fourteen year old me stood at the side of the flagman with my Dads instamatic! 
45110 arrived ten late after standing at Earlestown for an unscheduled stop and Eddie managed to phot the departure at East Junction before getting here to capture this image which looks soon to depart.
Hundreds again turned out in the evening for the return passing here at 19.30, we stuck pennies to the line with chewing gum (otherwise they would just be flung away) and I have mine to this day.
