2019 Ford Fiesta WRC (Elfyn Evans / Scott Martin)

            2019 saw the ceremonial start of Wales Rally GB held at the Pier Head in Liverpool. I got down there very early before a single car had even arrived to try and get a good vantage point for the event and it paid off handsomely.

Whilst most of the crowd were occupied with the start ramp I made a beeline for The Strand to get some uncluttered pictures of the competitors making their way out for the road section on route to the first competitive stage of the event at Oulton Park later that evening.

Luckily, I was first on scene before a few other people had the same idea. I must admit, it was quite enjoyable watching the world's finest trying to negotiate rush hour traffic in Liverpool City Centre!

Here we have home favourite Elfyn Evans in the M-Sport-entered Ford Fiesta WRC (PX69 EEO) trying to squeeze into the traffic jam with team-mate Pontus Tidemand having chosen the outside lane in the distance.

Evans' hopes of victory in his home event were dashed on the first full day when a puncture dropped the Welshman down the order but he went on to record seven stage wins over the remaining two days to finish the event in fourth position overall.
