My yellow rose at Pasadena - a photo on Flickriver

A yellow rose I photographed on a winter's afternoon in the the rose garden at the Huntington Gardens, Oxford Road, San Marino - near Pasadena in Los Angeles, California. (You enter via Orlando Road, as I recall). My son was only little and my elder daughter was only two, but we trekked around these amazing gardens on so many occasions when we lived in Los Angeles. My son especially loved all the special features, garden shapes, water spirals, etc, in the Childrens Garden. But best of all, for him, was our visit to the Huntington Gardens mausoleum! This was real Halloween stuff!!
For me the Huntington Gardens was a fabulous and exotic oasis amid hectic LA, and a great serenity after those insanely long and many flights between Sydney and LA with me looking after a two year old, whilst also reading about dinosaurs and Pokemon to a boy who barely now, at 23, remembers the ordeal!! But he remembers the rose and he remembers how, annoyingly for him as a child, it took ages for me to get the right light for the photograph!!
We call it our Pasadena rose because, for a while, we lived nearby to the Huntington Gardens, at Pasadena, but we also recall our trips to the rose garden and the adjacent tea-house in the Huntington Gardens!!
