Pink Japanese Cherry Blossoms - a photo on Flickriver

            I took an afternoon stroll in late July during a beautiful bout of rather spring like weather, and I walked past this Japanese cherry tree which had burst into bloom.  Luckily I had my camera with me, as this variety of tree has a very short blossoming period.

Prunus serrulata or Japanese cherry, also called hill cherry, oriental cherry, East Asian cherry, is a species of cherry native to China, Japan and Korea, and is used for its spring cherry blossom in displays and at festivals. 

Melbourne has experienced a colder and wetter than average winter this year, which has bed into spring, but the promise of a beautiful spring showing of flowers and blossoms is in the air.
