Lawrence Weiner – Wind en de wilgen - 1995

Lawrence Weiner (Bronx, New York, 1942) is an American artist and a central figure in the genesis of conceptual art. His work is often characterized by the use of typography. He considers text to be equivalent to art that is executed in material form and uses language as 'sculptural material' and the main medium for his plastic art. Gradually, the lyrics became more and more abstract, poetic and philosophical. His goal is to break through and change the conventional concept of “plastic art”.

Lawrence Weiner ( Bronx, New York, 1942) is een Amerikaans kunstenaar en een centrale figuur in de ontstaansgeschiedenis van de conceptuele kunst. Zijn werk kenmerkt zich vaak door het gebruik van typografie. Hij vindt tekst evenwaardig aan kunst die in materiële vorm is uitgevoerd en hanteert taal als ‘sculpturaal materiaal’ en voornaamste medium voor zijn beeldende kunst. Geleidelijk aan werden de teksten alsmaar abstracter, poëtischer en filosofischer. Zijn doel is het om het conventionele begrip “beeldende kunst” te doorbreken en te veranderen.

Il considère le texte comme l'équivalent de l'art réalisé sous une forme matérielle et utilise le langage comme «matériau sculptural» et le principal support de son art plastique. Peu à peu, ces textes sont devenues de plus en plus abstraites, poétiques et philosophiques. Son objectif est de percer et de changer le concept conventionnel de «l'art plastique».
