            La Basilica del Getsemani (o dell’Agonia) fu costruita dai Francescani negli anni 1919 ÷ 1924 (architetto Barluzzi) sulle rovine dell’antica basilica bizantina. Davanti all'altare maggiore affiora dal pavimento la roccia dell’agonia di Gesù, protetta tutt'intorno da un basso recinto in ferro battuto. Nel Getsemani Gesù iniziò coscientemente e liberamente la sua tragica passione per la liberazione del genere umano dal male e dal peccato.

The Basilica of Gethsemane (or Agony) was built by the Franciscans in the years 1919 ÷ 1924 (architect Barluzzi) on the ruins of the ancient Byzantine basilica. Before the main altar, the rock of Jesus' agony emerges from the floor. The rock is protected all around by a low fence of wrought iron. In Gethsemane Jesus began consciously and freely his tragic passion for the liberation of mankind from evil and sin.
