The Jubilee Line : logo designed by William Fenton ARA : London Transport, 1979

            The logo used on the front cover of the opening brochure for the first section of the Jubilee line of London Underground, 30 April 1979. The line had a long gestation and even when the newly constructed section from Baker Street to Charing Cross station opened the eastern trajectory for further extensions was uncertain. In the 1990s the line was sent east but on a new alignment from Green Park that saw the section of line opened as part of these works, from Green Park to Charing Cross, was effectively abandoned.

The line also took over the Bakerloo line branch north of Baker Street to Stanmore. This had opened in 1932 as part of the Metropolitan Railway and had itself been subsumed as the second northern branch of the old Bakerloo line in 1939 when a new section in tunnel was driven by London Transport between Baker St and Finchley Road to allieviate congestion on the Metropolitan's 'main line' out of Baker Street.
