2011 0530 02 PAN AMERICAN HIGHWAY BETWEEN NASCA AND SAN GREGORIO WIDE LOAD CONVOY FIRST TANK THROUGH OK

            On the 30th May 2011 I was travelling between Nasca and San Gregorio on the Pan American Highway.  The highway had to be closed to Northbound traffic to allow an extemely wide load to pass. However, we were travelling soutbound and we too came to a halt.  The first of the two tanks had been able to pass through the rock tunnel but the second tank was slighly larger and got stuck in the tunnel.  
So the road was blocked both ways for a considerable time.  The lorry had to be reversed and luckily by unbolting some exterior fitments it was hoped to pass the second tank through the tunnel.  It was certainly touch and go whether it would pass through. Inching forward and by moving sideways to the exact position the second tank passed through.  Had it not I presume it would have had to reverse for a considerable distance and probably then there would not have been an alternative route for it to travel.
It was certainly an experience seeing whether it would pass through or not.
