Airdrie Signal Box. 1985.

            The 1960's modernist pale pink brick with Crittall steel windows signal box at Airdrie station was a British Rail Scottish Region type 16c design. It replaced in 1960 an older North British Railway Co. box dating from 1900 and was commissioned on 28/2/1960 ahead of the massive revamp of the North Clyde suburban railway which was being electrified and formerly commenced operation from 5th November 1960. Airdrie was the limit of electrification and the line east to Bathgate had been reduced to freight only status from 9/1/1956. The box saw the partial reopening of the line through to Drumgelloch for passenger services on 15/5/1989 before the box was closed on 28/7/1991 when control of the whole route shifted to the new Yoker Signaling Centre.
