Wood tiger (Parasemia plantaginis) - a photo on Flickriver

The colorful wood tiger moth (Parasemia plantaginis) with a wingspan of 3,2 to 3,8 cm is a moth with several subspecies.
The wood tiger is widespread and found throughout the temperate northern hemisphere (Europe, Asia, North America).
In Europe it occurs from Spain and the northern Mediterranean Sea up to the Arctic Circle.
The wood tiger woodland clearings, clearcuts, fens, bushy and not too dry grasslands and high alpine pastures. It prefers more humid habitats and avoids dry ones.

De weegbreebeer (Parasemia plantaginis) is een dagactieve nachtvlinder uit de familie van de spinneruilen (Erebidae), onderfamilie beervlinders (Arctiinae).
De vleugelspanwijdte van de vlinder is tussen de 3,2 en 3,8 cm.
De weegbreebeer komt voor in bosgebieden en bij zurige graslanden in het grootste gedeelte van het noordelijk halfrond (Europa, Azië en Noord-Amerika).
De soort is in Nederland zeer zeldzaam, maar het aantal waarneming neemt in Zuid-Limburg wel toe.
