Peak Watching The Sunset - a photo on Flickriver

            ꒌ   ПОЗНИ СУНЧЕВИ ЗРАЦИ на врху северозападне стене Шљемена (2480 m) – тик пре него што ће сунце заћи за неки удаљени гребен Босне. У пењачком смислу, ова стена је за Дурмитор слично што и Сфинга за Триглавску северну стену – један од већих изазова.

► █░▓    Dear friends – for us who live in the Northern hemisphere THIS SPRING IS COMING TO ITS END. In about four hours, at 16:58 sharp, the summer is marching in. That is, the astronomical summer. High up here we've been enjoying summer weather for three days already, after two months of rain – the longest rain period I have ever experienced in my life.

Today is SUMMER SOLSTICE. Rejoice and admire!

Tomorrow, the Sun will be 9 thousand km further away from us at Earth. Where I live, the daylight today is 6,5 hours longer than the December solstice. Day length today is 2 seconds longer than it was yesterday; tomorrow, it will be 1 second shorter. Carpe diem!  ;)

But this is south of Europe, where the daylight in summer is not nearly as long as in the north. Meet Durmitor, the pivot of The Dinaric range. Captured on Sunday, June 18th, the first dry day after two months of flooding rain. From Mrčaj, the hilltop with 1419 m elevation, a few minutes hike above the friend's cottage house, almost all of high Durmitor range spectacularly unfolds before my eyes. As I set up the tripod, the last feeble sun rays fade out on the top of Šljeme Northwest face (2480 m). Taken with self shutter release, nine minutes before the astronomical sunset at 20:25 for this latitude. High Durmitor ridges have hidden the sun long before for me, standing relatively low. Šljeme top is in subdued diffuse rays because of the lot of moisture and clouds. 

At the mid bottom of this image I discovered the protruding mobile network aerial (Radio difuzni centar) at Pitomine, at exactly 4,25 km from the telephoto lens. Closer to bottom are the roofs of Palež hamlet.

I saw this day off on the right spot at the right moment. This was not the sharpest of the shots I took, but the light was changing fast and I chose this one for the distinctly faint light on the rock face just before the sunset. It takes a lot of developing and editing in Affinity Photo to get the final result right. This Pana Leica lens will never come up with a usable jpeg straight out of camera. Even without any wind, decently secured on a good quality tripod, you need luck too to get it sharp. No matter if it's set at 100 or at 400 mm.
