Ђурђиц, Слава једне породице у СПЦ Р'дам 2018.

            The annual celebration of Saint George, great-martyr in Lydda (4th c.), who is the particular patron of the family that prepared these cereals, bread and wine. They lie ready to be submitted to a dedicated prayer and will later be shared with the guests in a busy merry domestic get-together.  This tradition called SLAVA (roughly akin to 'glorification'), is as ancient as the collective christening in the middle ages. It has been carried on throughout the centuries by the generations of each particular family (or tribe, earlier). Sharing a particular patron can in some cases even indicate a common origin of the concerned families as in some areas the genealogy including Slava info can be used to historically trace down the line of descent.

A distinct and uniquely Serbian custom this Slava, which other local orthodox churches don't practice or know of. It is held in higher esteem than birthdays or personal name days and is considered the domestic highlight of the year, along with the Easter and Christmas feasts. This tradition had suffered a heavy blow in the times of communist rule in Yugoslavia but has been restored to a large degree ever since.
