Lynches River - a photo on Flickriver

Lynches River

            This is heading downstream not too far upstream from the US 401 bridge. The water is VERY high, although it must still be falling. Spectacular day, once the fog all lifted. My plant press is visible. (Collecting plants in a kayak is a challenge, and demands a special frame of mind. Still, I find myself cussing a lot in the process.) Not too much wildlife to see, other than a turtle, a hawk, parula warbler, cardinal, white-eyed vireo, wren, blue herons. Considerable number of caterpillars. A few spiders. No snakes. Trees: Pinus taeda (rare), Taxodium distichum (rare), Liquidambar styraciflua (surprisingly rare, at least right along the main channel), Nyssa aquatica (occasional), Quercus lyrata, Q. laurifolia (both common), Fraxinus caroliniana(?)(common), Planera aquatica (abundant), Acer rubrum (abundant), Salix nigra (common, ubiquitous where sand bars exist, although all the bars are submerged presently).
