Beim Anblick der Ritterstraße, bedarf es nur geringer Fantasie, um sich vorzustellen, wie sich einst Adelige aus ganz Europa, über das Kopfsteinpflaster hier tummelten. Die Ritterstraße war die Hauptstraße des Viertels, das Collachium genannten wurde. Zahlreiche Ihrer Hospitale und Arsenale waren hier gebaut worden. Hier empfingen die Ritter Besucher, feierten Feste und saßen zusammen. Gewohnt haben sie in den Herbergen nicht, sondern in Privaträumen der Ritterstadt. Die kerzengerade verlaufende Straße beginnt an der Stadtmauer, die an der Hafenseite liegt, und endet am Großmeisterpalast. Sie wurde auf der Trasse einer antiken Straße erbaut. Sie ist die einzige vollständig erhaltene Wohnstraße aus dem 16. Jahrhunderts Griechenlands, und eine der wenigen Europas.

Knight Street in Rhodes Town

When you see Knight Street, it doesn't take much imagination to picture nobles from all over Europe strolling along its cobblestones. Knight Street was the main street of the district known as Collachium. Many of its hospitals and arsenals were built here. This is where the knights welcomed visitors, celebrated festivals, and dined together. They did not live in hostels, but in private rooms in the Knights' City. The straight road begins at the city wall on the harbor side and ends at the Grand Master's Palace. It was built on the route of an ancient road. It is the only completely preserved residential street from the 16th century in Greece and one of the few in Europe.
