Am modernen Museum im Westen des Talkessels vorbei führt ein Bergpfad durch das Wadi Kharareeb zum außerhalb der eigentlichen Stadt gelegenen Grabtempel Ed-Deir. Sein Name, auf deutsch „Kloster“, geht darauf zurück, dass sich im Mittelalter Mönche darin niederließen. Anders als das Khazne Firaun liegt das Ed-Deir nicht versteckt, sondern hoch am Berg und beeindruckt nicht zuletzt durch seine Größe. Es ist 40 Meter hoch und 47 Meter breit; allein die Urne auf der Spitze des Rundtempels misst 9 Meter in der Höhe. Wegen seines schlichten, aber monumentalen Stils und seiner einsamen Lage zählt das Ed-Deir zu den bedeutendsten Werken nabatäischer Baukunst.
