Harahan Railroad Bridge over the Mississippi River Memphis, Tennessee

I had taken a couple of pictures of trains on the bridge but the best shot of the day was actually the one without a train.

Constructed by the Arkansas & Memphis Railway Bridge & Terminal Company under the supervision of Ralph Modjeski the bridge has a total length of 4,973 feet which includes an asymmetric collection of cantilevered, suspended, semi-suspended, and deck truss spans - the longest of which is the western-most span of 791 feet. Originally named the Rock Island Bridge, it was subsequently renamed for Memphis businessman J.T. Harahan, who was president of the firm that built the bridge.

The bridge is part of the Union Pacific system.
