Yoyogi Park - a photo on Flickriver

Yoyogi Park

            Yoyogi Park is one of the largest parks in Tokyo, and is a welcome relief from the crowded and hectic streets of Tokyo.

The parked is especially popular on Sundays, when it is used by families and friends for many activities.

You can see a variety of pets such as dogs, cats, rabbits and even a meerkat (photo to follow) enjoying the park with their owners.

Games such as baseball, basketball, tennis, juggling and frisbee throwing is all around.

Young locals will use the park to play musical instruments, practice their dancing and just hang-out.

The east end of the park has some 1950s rockers and they put on a great show dancing to the tunes of the 50s.

The park has a bike path, a public basketball court, bicycle rentals, kiosk and a large lake.

It also has a fenced dog run, one of the few areas in Tokyo where dogs are allowed to be off leash.

The park also has a lot of history.  It was the location for the athletes' village in the 1964 Olympics.  It was used during WWI and WWII and it was the site of the first successful powered aircraft flight in Japan, on December 19, 1910.

A great place to rest and unwind.
