Saint-Véran, petit village de 290 habitants, se situe à 28 km de Briançon.
Il est souvent défini comme la commune la plus haute d'Europe. 
Cependant, il est plus juste de dire que c'est la commune dont la partie habitée est la plus haute d'Europe. 
En effet, parmi les communes recouvrant l'intégralité du territoire français, c'est la commune de Saint-Gervais-les-Bains sur laquelle se trouve le sommet du Mont Blanc qui est la plus haute d'Europe. 
Le centre du village, avec église et mairie, est à 2 042 m, son territoire s'étend entre 1 990 et 2 100 m d'altitude.
Le territoire de la commune, quant à lui, s'étend de 1756 à 3175 m. 
Saint-Véran est situé au cœur du Parc naturel régional du Queyras. 
C'est une station de sports d'hiver familiale qui peut accueillir environ 1 800 personnes. 
On trouve dans le village une vingtaine de cadrans solaires muraux qui datent de la Renaissance

Saint-Veran, a small village of 290 inhabitants, is located 28 km from Briançon.
It is often defined as the highest town in Europe.
However, it is fair to say that the town in which the home is the highest in Europe.
Indeed, among the municipalities covering the whole french territory, the commune of Saint-Gervais-les-Bains on which the summit of Mont Blanc is the highest in Europe.
The village center with church and town hall, is 2 042 m, its territory lies between 1 990 and 2 100 m altitude.
The territory of the town, it ranges from 1756 to 3175 m.
Saint-Veran is located in the heart of the Parc Naturel Régional du Queyras.
It is a ski family can accommodate about 1 800 people.
Found in the village about twenty sundials wall dating from the Renaissance
