D5039 Ipswich MPD

            Another from the Brian Dyes collection. It is easy to forget that the early BR Sulzer Type 2s (later Class 24), had an association with East Anglia.  
When this picture was taken in 1964, D5036 - D5049 inclusive were all based at Ipswich.  A number of examples were given two tone green livery in the mid 1960s, before the stud were whittled down, firstly by the transfer of D5040 to Bletchley in January 1966 and then the remainder going to Stoke-on-Trent in August 1967. 
D5039 itself was new to Ipswich in September 1959 and remained there until 1967 save a short spell at March in 1960. Here D5039 is treated to a wash at the perimeter of Ipswich depot. The loco has received a small yellow panel and a very low positioned overhead line warning flash.
Oh and look at those fine 405 Line aerials on those houses at the back !
