CURTEA DE ARGES, ROMANIA - Princely church of St. Nicholas/ КУРТЯ-ДЕ-АРДЖЕШ, РУМЫНИЯ - Свято-Николаевская княжеская церковь

            The St. Nicholas church was built in early XIV century by Basarab I, the first independent Romanian prince, next to his palace in Curtea de Arges, the Medieval capital of Walachia (the predecessor of today's Romanian state).  The frescoes inside date from the reign of Vladislav I, Basarab's grandson.  While the church has survived surprisingly well, just a foundation remains from the palace; Basarab I himself and several of the subsequent princes from the dynasty he had founded are entombed inside.

Свято-Николаевская церковь была построена в начале XIV века (примерно когда в Москве начинал княжить Иван Калита) Басарабом I, первым исторически удостоверенным румынским князем, рядом со своим дворцом в Куртя-де-Арджеш, средневековой столицей княжества Валахия (предшественницы сегодняшней Румынии).  Фрески внутри были написаны при Владиславе I, внуке Басараба.  Церковь хорошо сохранилась, но от дворца остался лишь фундамент; сам Басараб I и несколько князей из династии, основанной им, захоронены внутри.
