Youth Today. Happy Flight Friday - a photo on Flickriver

            I mentioned the other week the different colouration of the young Galahs. This year's cohort is just spreading their wings so to speak with independence! This little one, in some light when it arrived looked almost ghostly in appearance, with the overall light grey colouration. In this view, you can see that grey, a little darker in this view over most of its body. This will be the first to change, leaving just bold patches of light grey on breast and tummy. It takes quite a while for those to be replaced totally by the iconic rose pink.

It is fascinating to watch the little ones discover their new world, playing around with food, often lumps of cracked corn although later on, it's rare for them to eat this pretty horrible and tough stuff. They also have very, very cute little voices, much different and more childlike than the adults.
