My Great-Grandmother's Fan - a photo on Flickriver

            The We're Here! gang is examining all things Japanese today. My great-grandparents, Professor Edward Odlum (1850-1935) and his wife Mary (nee Powell), lived in Japan for two years in the late 1880s. 

This was my great-grandmother's fan. She died in Japan in 1888 or 89, and is buried in Tokyo. Somewhere, I have a rubbing of her grave marker.

Professor Odlum was the principal of Goyo-Eiwa Gakko College, Japan from 1887; connected to the Methodist Church; and lectured at the Imperial University, Tokyo regarding his scientific work on the 1888 eruption of Mount Bandai, a volcano in the Fukushima prefecture.
