            One 48"high wheel replica ..of two, (the other (not pictured) was 36"), purchased for $90 & $70, respectively, from the UCLA student store on May 13, 1975.
They had been used for a 'Back to School' window display the previous Fall, and now were being disposed of. 
Oddly, I had seen the large one & ridden it w/o permission, as it had been stored up  behind the Drake track stadium, which also happened to be where my UCLA Lightweight   Crew (rowing team) did their weight & ergometer land workouts. My coach had caught me (he was 1 year older than I) and scolded me for .."not mine, no permission, etc"...  
Well, come Spring I owned 'em, I could give permission now! 
 My Dad was the age I am now and had always been an avid cyclist, so was tickled to get a chance to try the original style of bike. He naturally took to it as quickly as I had, though if my memory serves, this was his only outing, in front of my friends the Jordan's Los Angeles home @ 251 S. Van Ness Ave.

The make was "The Old Fashioned" and were tagged "for display only, not for highway use". They broke in many interesting ways, but Paul Jordan & I rode them for many miles, and took a 40 mile & then an 80 mile trip around LA. 
They're long gone, sold to Western   Savings & Loan in '78?, to be raffled off.

My 1930 Model A Coupe is at rear, bought Feb. '73 for $800, sold June '89 for $3400.
I put 40,000 miles on my Iron Mistress in 16 years, not a powder puff...
