Switching On Borrowed Time - a photo on Flickriver

            This New England Central SD9 was built in 1959 for the Duluth, Missabe, and Iron Range Railway unit where it served for 39 years as their number 161 before being sold to Railtex in 1998 and transferred to the Georgia Southwestern. The nose was chopped around that time. It was transferred by then-parent RailAmerica around 2005 to the Connecticut Southern and then to the NECR in 2009. The days are numbered due to an EPA document that calls for this and many other non-emission-compliant engines on the G&W system to no longer be used. It is still serving as the yard switcher in Saint Albans, but for how much longer is anyone's guess.
