The Bulls Head Inn, at Inkberrow in Worcestershire, by Peter Dewell

            Today a digression - my friend Peter noticed that Mariette80, on Flickr, thought that the Bull's Head at Wootton Wawen  was exactly her idea of 'The Bull' in the long running radio series 'The Archers', which is set in the countryside around a fictional village called 'Ambridge'. Originally an 'everyday story of country folk', the long running radio soap is now called a 'contemporary drama in a rural setting.'

The series has been running continuously since 1951 (I remember Dick Barton, Special Agent, which preceded it, but there are not a lot of us about these days). Not surprisingly sundry villages, churches and pubs have claimed they are the originals of their Ambridge equivalents.

Peter states the case for the Old Bull at Inkberrow -"The archetypal Archer’s pub is the Old Bull at Inkberrow" and adds that "The Bulls Head is across the green and the road, often confused with The Old Bull. The Bulls Head is a Georgian front on a pair of Tudor cottages only visible internally, with a priest’s hole. Both are in the village of Inkberrow, Worcs.

Neither of the Bulls Heads at WW nor Inkberrow boasts an apostrophe. It may be a genetic thing, or generic!"
