Hollyhocks and human heads, Charleston, Sussex

            We had been talking about visiting Charleston, near Brighton in Sussex for maybe ten years, interested by several films and TV documentaries. The house and garden is like a mini stately home in many respects, but with many 20th century works of art contributed and often made in situ by members of the Bloomsbury group.
According to Wikipedia:-
'Charleston, in East Sussex is a property associated with the Bloomsbury group, that is open to the public. It was the country home of Vanessa Bell and Duncan Grant and is an example of their decorative style within a domestic context, representing the fruition of over sixty years of artistic creativity. Vanessa Bell wrote of this time; "It will be an odd life, but ... it ought to be a good one for painting."

The day we were there the garden appeared to be dominated by hollyhocks and sculptures of human heads, including one apparently emerging from the ground.
