596e2 Tongass forest floor - a photo on Flickriver

Alaska is not all ice and snow. In fact, the coastal area ending all the way down to Washington state is comprised of the Tongass National Forest, which is designated as a coastal rain forest.

In June it was quite moist, with clouds or fog frequently. Here is a peek at the forest floor with some of teh abundant ferns, mushrooms, and assorted greenery to be found all around.
