What a Beauty

            In many bird species, the male is the bird most of us are attracted to.  The male rufous hummingbird, with his red-green-yellow throat patch is a spectacularly beautiful bird, but his female counterpart is certainly not without her own beauty.  This portrait of a female rufous hummingbird is a favourite of mine.  I managed only two shots of this little bird, but what a picture she gave me.  Her feminine demeanor, her wondrous colours make for great photography.  Enjoy this lovely little bird, only 3.5 inches (8 cms) long from the tip of her long beak to the end of her tail.  

I captured this image on Vancouver Island, Canada with my Nikon D300, Nikkor 600 mm lens, 1.4 teleconverter, ISO 500, f8, 1/500s.
