Oil tanker barge "Stourgate" on the Medway near Maidstone

            This photo was taken by my grandfather, E.H. Clark of Maidstone. He wrote "First photo I took" on the back, but otherwise I know little about it.
I've amended my original description based on comments received and second thoughts.
I would guess that it's around 1925 (based on the dates given below)  and while I wondered at first if it was somewhere around Aylesford, where there were oil tanks in the 1960s, I think it's more likely to be just below the High Level railway bridge in Maidstone.  This would mean it had come up through Allington Lock.
The Anglo American Oil Company became Esso UK in the early 1930s.
Is there any expert on barges or the history of the Medway who could give more details, please?
