Large Copper (Lycaena dispar rutilus) male

            Bumble Hole NR, Dudley, West Midlands, England 
A small population of this delightful butterfly has appeared at this reserve. This is an unofficial introduction, but their food plant, Water Dock, grows there. Pairs have mated and eggs can be seen. 
This sub species is found in central Europe. Our own sub species is now extinct. I saw about 8 individuals and whilst it seems unlikely they will survive long term, I'll keep my fingers crossed.
