Yikes who’s that ?? Me in 1976 in the smokebox of 4014

            From 1974 to 1980 I was the caretaker for the UP 4014 Big Boy at the Southern California Chapter of the Railway & Locomotive Historical Society (RLHS) at the Los Angeles County Fairgrounds. As a teenager in the 70s, I was one of those long hairs and you can see me climbing out of the 4014 smokebox. You were able to crawl past the grilled enclosed exhaust nozzle/blower sets and back to an open area next to the ALCO combination multiport throttle and flu/tube superheater header.
