Between 1936 and 1945, more than 3,300 Catalinas were built, making it the most built flying boat of WWII. This late model was built in 1945 for the US Navy as BuAer 64017, and hit the civil market in 1958, flying with several US operators. From 1964 to 1973 it was in service with the Sécurité Civile in France, and in 1974 it was sold to Canada, becoming CF-HNH and later C-FHNH with Avalon Aviation, who operated it as Tanker #6.

Between 1979 and 1985, the Catalina was leased to Norwegian charter operator Haydn Air Charter. Still registered as C-FHNH, it was captured parked at Fornebu, its base, in full Avalon colours and additional Hayd Air Charter titles.

After the Norwegian lease ended, the Catalina was ferried to the UK, and became G-BPFY with Aces High at North Weald. It remained active until 2004, when it was acquired by the IDFAF Museum at Hatzerim. In 2007 it was dismantled and transported to Israel, where it was put on display in 2008, painted in fake serial 3401. Recent reports indicate that it is still at the museum today.
