This Convairliner was built in 1957 as a CV.440-90, and was being operated as a corporate aircraft by various companies. In early 1962 it was converted to a CV.580, exchanging its piston engines for two new Allison 501 turboprops. After conversion it continued flying for various corporations and airlines, before it was sold to Sweden in late 1980.

Becoming SE-IEY, the CV.580 was acquired by ScanBee, a Bromma-based niche-operator initially operating a CV.340. SE-IEY was captured at its base, on the old western apron in front of the signature hangar, being readied for the next flight. What a shame that the western apron - certainly the most interesting part of Bromma - was decommissioned and turned into a large parking lot, and all the old hangars now housing retail outlets and bargain shops. The signature hangar depicted is now the XXL sports market.

After ScanBee ceased operations in 1986, the Convair was eventually sold to Canada in 1987, and to New Zealand in 1990, becoming ZK-KFL with Air Freight NZ. The last operator was Air Chathams, who retired it in 2021. It is reported as withdrawn from use, but its exact fate is unknown. ZK-KFL is widely recognized as the very last CV.580 on scheduled passenger services anywhere in the world.
