The B.747SP (for Special Performance) was Boeing's answer to the upcoming tri-jets, the DC-10 and the L.1011, in the seventies. Coming too late and with one engine too many, only 45 examples were built of this extreme-range airliner, capable of flying non-stop from the US to the Middle East, or from Johannesburg all around the waters of Africa to London.

One of the 45 found its way to Argentina, registered as LV-OHV and flying for flag carrier Aerolineas Argentinas. It was captured flaring for runway 28 on the regular Buenos Aires to Zürich service, showing the airline's two-tone blue livery of the time, perhaps the best livery they ever had.

Accepted by Braniff on delivery in April 1980, the aircraft was handed over to Aerolineas in September that year, and continued operating for them until 1990, when it was sold to Air Mauritius. It later flew with Qatar Airways, the Qatar Amiri flight and in Yemen. Operated by Yemenia as 7O-YMN on behalf of the government, the SP was eventually destroyed in 2015 at Aden-International during fighting at the airport.
