Etihad Regional was the grand plan of Abu Dhabi-based carrier Etihad Airways to expand across Europe, linking European towns to Etihads hubs across the continent, and eventually to Abu Dhabi. Swiss regional carrier Darwin Airline was chosen as the platform for Etihad Regional, and Etihad acquired a 33.3% stake in Darwin in late 2013. Etihad Regional services were started in January 2014, and its Saab 2000 aircraft were subsequently repainted in Etihad Regional colours. In addition four ATR.72s were leased for enhanced services.

One of them, HB-ACC, was seen in Etihad Regional's stylish livery, bearing addtional titles 'Operated by Darwin Airline' on the rear fuselage. HB-ACC was aiming for runway 14 on a domestic flight from Geneva.

Etihad's plans folded quickly, when EU cabotage rules prevented non-EU carriers - such as Darwin - to operate routes within the EU, cancelling many vital routes for Darwin, and Etihad. In mid-2017 Etihad sold its stake in Darwin, and the Regional project came to an end. A few months later, Darwin also folded its wings.

HB-ACC was returned to lessor Nordic Aviation Capital as OY-CUF, and was last heard of as being in storage at Billund, Denmark.
