It was the time without any flight trackers, no online arrival or departure boards, and little to no information from colleagues working at the airport. So a nice but rather chilly afternoon was spent at the runway end, in the hope of having hammered something extraordinary by the end of the day.

Like this Pakistani Boeing 720, which unexpectedly showed up on the regular Air Malta service from Luqa to Zürich, replacing one of Air Malta's leased Pakistani 720s. Registered as AP-ATQ, it was seen on finals to runway 14, paying a rare and much appreciated visit to Zürich.

AP-ATQ was ordered by Northwest Orient, but not taken up, and was instead delivered to PIA in 1965. It spent all its career with PIA, until late 1985, when it was withdrawn from use at Karachi, and broken up there in April 1986.
