4079 'Pendennis Castle' Locomotive on Turntable, Didcot Railway Centre

            This image was taken at the Timeline Events charter at Didcot Railway Centre in mid February. All images for this evening I decided that I would take hand-held. In order to do this is had to bump the ISO up for each image.

This particular image was taken down by the railway turntable. It was so dark down here, even though a couple of lights were set up, that very little was viewable with the naked eye. As an example, I could not make out any features of the two men at the front moving the manual turntable and did not realise that there were two men opposite them. I also did not realise that the diesel engines were in the background.

For this image I put the ISO on the Nikon D850 to 25600 - never thought I would ever use that high an ISO as my usual shots are at ISO64 - and allied with the Nikon 24-70 f/2.8 I reckon that it did a pretty good job. Considering this scene appeared to be near darkness except for a few hotspots, I reckon it did a pretty good job. Maybe not as detailed as a lower ISO image but if you would otherwise miss a shot upping your ISO is certainly a tactic to keep in mind.
